Question

Drawer Lock Cut-out
Elleen,
We have an old, what we believe to be, library desk that came from a mansion from the early 20th century. We would like to find two replacement locks, keys and a drawer knob for the desk. If possible we would also like to find out what company built it and when. Attached is a picture of the back of the drawer font. I have other pictures too.
Thanks,  Kristi

Answer
Hi Kristi
Nice to hear from you.
It should not be a problem getting a replacement lock and key.
Take the drawer to your local locksmith who will help.
Without any identifying marks it will be impossible to tell who made your desk, but it should be easy for an expert in the field to tell you when your desk was made around.
Fred Taylor is our American Furniture expert.
Perhaps a query to Fred.
He is on the same page you found me.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
