Question

Antique caned chair
I inherited 4 chairs from my grandmother who owned an antique shop in New England.  I know nothing about them.  Can you give me any advise?

Answer
Thanks for your question.
These appear to me to be what is called, "Banister Back Chairs".
The condition looks very nice on the one in the picture.Without seeing the construction used and being able to see if there are any markings, it's impossable to date them. I would suggest you have the others caned and try to find a local dealer who might be able to give you more info or you could email me some pictures of the bottoms and joint details and I will try to get you closer on a date.

 Good Luck,
 Rob
