Subject: Handmade dresser

Question
I've a three drawer dresser, handmade, possibly by an ancestor. The wood is fat lighter, (resin pine), stained black walnut. There are no dovetail joints, no center runners for the drawers, but plenty of character! In place of the aforementioned runners, there are six pieces of iron, shaped rather like a spade, two per drawer. The bottom of the drawers have a shallow trench hollowed out, to allow the drawer to pass smoothly over the iron guides. There is also a metal disk on the back, covering a knot hole. Written on the back is T.V. Toole, (another ancestor), Vicksburg Miss. The story my mother told me was the dresser was sent to this ancestor, via train. I am probating my mother's estate, and if no family member wants the dresser, must sell it. Any idea as to what, if any, value this piece could have? I can get photos in a few weeks.

Thanx in advance.

Answer
Dae - If you can send me some photos of the dresser I will be happy to tell you what I can. You can send clear photos to me as .jpg files at info@furnituredetective.com. Please send the photos directly to me as .jpg files. DO NOT put them in an online photo album. Be sure to include a copy of your original inquiry so I can match them up or I will not respond.
Thanks

Fred Taylor
