Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Pewter Pitcher

Question

Pitcher Bottom
Hello Mr. Martin,
Attached please find two photos of what I believe is a pewter pitcher. It is approximately 6 inches high.
The photo of the bottom shows, not very clearly, a series of very weakly stamped marks.
The top line of marks consists of an "E" next to which is a strange symbol that looks like a Chinese Character consisting of a vertical line with small "branches" on either side, next to which is what appears to be a simple lower case letter "r", but without the horizontal base line and the top "spur" to the left.
Below all these are four separate shield like punch marks that have characters within them, but are to weak to identify.
Below these is simply stamped the word "England"
Any information you would provide regarding the maker or anything you would so kind to comment on is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your attention to this inquiry,
Sincerely yours,
George Dokoupil

These marks are copies of marks used by two different 18th Century English pewterers. These copy marks were used by Birmingham pewtering firms in the mid-late 20th Century on reproduction pieces that were sold originally as decorative items but now frequently turn up in the antiques trade being sold as genuine antiques. Your piece cannot date before about 1950.
