Hi, I have a small pair of what I think are sewing scissors and I was wondering if you could tell me anything about them. They are approximately 2 7/8" in length and they're made in Germany. There's a makers mark on it thats a B with a diagonal line through it. You can see it in the picture I attached. Any info you could give me would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
Answer Hello Miranda. I've check through my personal reference library but find little on scissors. Estelle Zalkin's Thimbles and Sewing Implements has a chapter on scissors as does Gay Ann Rogers' An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools. I know there are at least two out of print books dedicated to the subject of scissors (that I don't have). By the size, I would say your scissors are embroidery scissors. I'm afraid I'm not much help, other than that. Perhaps your local library or bookstore can find the two books I referenced. You could also check on line for maker's marks or scissor collectors. Good luck with the hunt. Barb
