Question

antique thimble
Could you tell me something about this thimble? Age? Value?

Answer
Hello Lesley.  Your thimble looks to be made of base metal.  It has machine knurling (those indentations where the needle's eye goes to be pushed through fabric) so that means it was probably made post 1840s.  There is no top as it is a tailor's thimble.  They did not have tops as the tailors would use the side of their thumb or finger to push the needle, whereas, needleworkers use the top.  This is a utilitarian item and has little value.  If it belonged to a family member, it has much more sentimental value than monetary.  Hope I've helped.  Barb
