Hi
would appreciate your help I have a silver thimble
which has a series of holes punch through the top and sides
at first I though these were wear holes but they do form a pattern.It is hallmarked as follows chester 1897 or 1899 date letter not to clear. mnay thanks, regards Lesley

Hello Lesley.  I'm afraid I'm not much help without a picture.  Any chance you could send digital pictures to me at bacchino@twcny.rr.com?  Chester would have been the city of assay.  Yes, those little date letters are sometimes very hard to make out.  Sorry I'm not more help.  Barb
