Question
WHERE CAN I OBTAIN WOODEN SLATS FOR THE SEATS OF MY TWO PORCH ROCKERS? THEY HAVE HAD CANE SEATS FOUR TIMES AND THE SQUIRRELS EAT THE CANE OR RUSH OFF THE SEATS ON THE PORCH EACH TIME. I WISH TO REPLACE THE CANE OR RUSH WITH WOODEN SLATS. I NEED THE NAME AND PHONE NUMBER ALONG WITH AN E MAIL ADDRESS TO LOCATE SUCH A PLACE THAT WILL SELL ME THE NUMBER I WILL NEED PER CHAIR. I HAVE TWO PORCH ROCKERS THAT ARE AT LEAST  65 YEARS OLD, BUT ARE IN GREAT SHAPE OTHER THEN THE SEAT AREA.

Answer
Hi John
Nice to hear from you.
Can't give you a name John because this is something you do not buy from stock.
But this is a very easy thing to get.
So please go to your lumber yard with the measurements (length x width x one inch thick x the number of strips you need).
Ask for the strips to be made of cedar.
They will cut them for you with no problem.
Then simply drill and screw in place.
John this is an easy fix.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
