Question
I have a 1 3/4 round top w 170 year old walnut crouch veneer in a sunburst pattern, my walnut edgeband has a couple of indentations and a small veneer crack.  What do I do.
thanks

Answer
Hi Jay
Nice to hear from you.
Unfortunately this area seems to get the damage.
I strongly recommend a pro look at this before you attempt anything yourself.
Let them be the judge of the damage and any repairs that need doing.
And veneer cracks as you describe.
Its from climate change.
Never throw away and veneer that may break off from this area as it can be glued back.
Not much you can do for cracking but watch the humidity in the house but like I say, let a pro look at this.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
