Question

kit 1
I recently acquired an antique 5 piece silver handled sewing kit. Scissors are approx 3 1/2 inches, very ornate thimble, 2 piece needle holder Possible a punch of some type and appaerntly a large #3 needle with a star adjacent to the eye. Can you give me any detail or history?

Answer
Hello Arthur.  Can you tell me if there are any marks on the items, such as sterling or 925 or any trademarks?  Can you provide a picture of the case the kit comes in?  I can tell you that the thimble in the case is not original to the set.  It is a filigree thimble and probably silver.  From the picture you sent, it almost looks like the other pieces in the set are aluminum.  Yes, that is an awl or a punch, which was used in needlework to make holes that were sewn around.  If you can send another picture, my email is bacchino@twcny.rr.com
