Question
QUESTION: I have an antique vanity table , It has 3 mirrors ,the two side mirrors can be folded shut over the middle mirror, the thing Is It has no markings or date or anything to give a hint as to the age,Is there any way I can identify It, THANK YOU MRS< GOLDEN

ANSWER: Hi Bonnie
Nice to hear from you.
If you remove the backs of the mirrors to expose the back of the glass you should see a date.
It will be stamped there somewhere.

Eileen

QUESTION: First, let me thank you for you advice on my last question. I am sure It would have told me what I needed to know but evidently somewhere down thru the years someone decided to remove the backings and not replace them. Are there any other markings I could go by.any thing would be helpful. And once again thank you for your help and quick responce,MRS,GOLDEN

ANSWER: Hi again Bonnie
Sorry I was not clear on the first answer.
The date will be right on the actual glass not on any backing.
And if you post a picture here it may help also.
Kind Regards

QUESTION: Hello again, you where so very helpful In helping me find the age of my vanity table ,It was right where you said It would be It was mfg In 1923. And I never would have found It with out your help,I have one more question I hope you can help me with, the mirrors have what looks like some kind of blk paint on the back side of them and I guess because of age and all some of It has chipped of ,And It makes the mirrors look like they have water spots,Is there any way to fix this? or do I have to just replace them? And If so would I go to a regular glass shop or would I go to someone who restores antiques? Thank you for your generous time. bonnie

Answer
Hi again Bonnie
So glad you found the date.
Now you can pass that info on in future.
Kind of neat to find out your vanity is that old.
Unfortunately the glass cannot be repaired.
I usually just go to my glass shop and get the cheapest mirror cut.
And the new stuff looks so nice.
Write anytime.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
