Question
Hello,

I've found a very old, ornate thimble with my metal detector.  I showed it to a lady that has over 200 in her collection.  She said she'd never seen one with detail like this one has.

It has a house and over things carved into it.  Inside at the bottom is what looks like "801"  It is a size "6".

I can send a digital photo if you can help me.

I found it about two blocks from where Pres James K. Polk lived.

I am hoping for an identificatoin of this thimble.

hope you can respond!

Answer
Hello James.  Yes, I would need to see a good digital picture or pictures in order to help you.  Please do not clean the thimble with tarnex.....if it is dirty, just some and water and a mild toothbrushing would be best.  If you can photograph the marks inside the thimble or provide a picture of a drawing of the marks, that would help.  It sounds like you may have a "scenic" with was a thimble that had a scene etched or embossed onto it.  I look forward to hearing more from you.  bacchino@twcny.rr.com.  Barbara
