Question

Machine Base
Hi! I just picked up a Vintage Red glass globed Acorn gumball machine by Oak Mfg. Inc. I have seen others like it on the web however I have yet to find one that states "Patent Pending" on the top, instead of having the patent number printed. It functions fine just needs a good clean up. Paint is in good condition, globe as no cracks, no rust or anything out of he ordinary. I did notice that there is no label on the glass (acorn 1c, 2c, etc). It does have the teardrop chute as well. I am thinking it is one of the very first acorn machines produced. I am hoping you can help. Purchased it for a little over $4 at a thrift store.

Answer
Hi, Oak Mfg was based in Los Angeles, Ca, which makes it a bit unique as most of the coin operated vending manufacturers were based out of Chicago.  Your machine appears to be from the early 1950's.  Your greater value for this machine is based more on the pointed chute door, which is more popular.  Rarity is not a factor on Oak machines, so yours in present condition is valued at $30-50.  Decals are available if you want to dress up the globe.  Larry  www.coinoplibrary.com
