Question
I found sewing materials from an elderly aunt. I know some people collect old thread spools.  What constitutes a worthy spool to these collectors?  Do I look at size, wording on, other aspects???  Should I remove the thread or leave it on?
Thanks so much for any information!

Answer
Hello Linda,
There are collectors who specialize in thread spools, I am not one of them however.
I do know that for the spool of thread to have any value, it should have the original paper decal on both ends if possible and the original thread.
These thread spools came in a variety of sizes.  Various makers also made them for example, Leonard's Spool Silks or O.N.T.
If you type in antique thread spools on eBay you might find them listed and this would give you a benchmark of what yours might be worth.

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
