Collectibles-General (Antiques)/a couch

Question
I have a gooseneck couch made in 1940's just wondering if you have heard of that kind, and if it would be worth anything. Thank you, Teresa I am not asking for an appraisal

Answer
Hi Teresa
Nice to hear from you.
Yes I have heard of this term applied to furniture and lamps too.
Unfortunately with upholstered furniture of this era, it always needs re doing.
This can cost as much as $1500.00 or more which makes the couch virtually worth nothing if its needs to be done.
A lot of these old couches have what is called a soft front.
That means the part that touches the back of your knees when you sit is actually a heavy wire spring of sorts that sags when sat on.
Most women dislike this type of couch for obvious reasons and want a hard front (which is a wood board padded that does not sag.)
Hope this helps
Kind Regards

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
