Collectibles-General (Antiques)/lincoln rocker

Question
I inherited a Lincoln rocker that is in pieces.  The springs are no longer with it.  I want to reupholster it, but wonder if I can just substitute foam for the hand tied springs.  The wooden base is still there and I can just slip the foam into it. Can you buy springs already made to size? Thanks.  Juanita

Answer
Hi Jaunita
Nice to hear from you.
I suppose you could sub foam for the coil springs.
This type of fix is never as comfortable though.
But if the chair is just for show it would work.
If this is a very nice chair I would get an upholstery shop to do the spring work.
Yes you can buy the springs.
Here is a link.

But really think about the shop doing it.
Then you have a nice starting point.

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
