Question

PEWTER TEA POT
Hi, forgive me if you already received this as i had trouble login in to you. I have a pewter tea pot which was my great great great grandmas and would like any info that you may have on it and a value if any. on the bottom is marked
5
WAR  NTED
BEST BRITANNIA
METAL
? 0914
THANKS CHRISTINA

Answer
-

Made of Britannia metal, a pewter alloy used in fabricating from sheet rather than casting.

The particular wording of the mark (the first word si "warranted") is reminiscent of late 19th century American products, and the piece may well have been made in New England. If not, then it was probably made in either Sheffield or perhaps Birmingham in England. Dates around 1850-80. 0914 is the pattern number. 5 may be the capacity, in half-pints, thirds of pints, or cups.

Value is not great, less than 40 pounds / 80 dollars.
