Question
How does one know if he has a Fife table and chairs?  I showed my table/chairs to a furniture guy a year or two ago and he said it was a Duncan Fife.  I had no idea what that meant, but now am looking to sell it and want to know how to know for sure if it is a Fife and if so, how to find out how much it might be worth.

Answer
Hi Joe
Nice to hear from you.
I suspect your table and chairs are "in the style' of Duncan Phyfe.
It would be a rare find indeed if it was actually made by Mr. Phyfe
There is a huge amount of this style of furniture out there.
Look at ebay to get some prices.

And read this article on Mr Phyfe

There is lots of info available on the man.
Hope this helps in your search Joe.
Best of luck

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
