sewing tool
Can you help tell us about this sewing tool. We have owned it some years.  picture. Thanks

Answer
Hello David.  You have a wooden sewing clamp with a hoop attached.  The hoop could have been used for fancy handwork or for mending or for any number of sewing techniques.  The clamp made it so that your hands were free rather than having one hand hold the sewing surface.  Sewing clamps were also referred to as the "third hand" for sewing.  Some clamps were quite ornate in the shape of birds.  Clamps were made in many different materials, as well.  Clamps also could have pin cushions, thread winders and other sewing gadgets, incorporated into their design.  Barbara
