Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Pewter Pint

Question
Martin,

I have a very plain pewter mug bearing the marks:

VR
(crown)
6

There is a PINT mark also, both are located just below the rim of the cup.  I hoped that you might be able to give me some idea of the age. I saw your previous post below which leads me to believe that it is Victorian.

Hello Richard,

There isn't a huge amount I can tell you, but here goes. The capacity verification mark is for Birmingham, England, dating from not earlier than 1879 and not later than the end of Victoria's reign. These Birmingham VR6 marks are most often seen on mugs made in Birmingham, by either James Yates (ends 1881) or his successors. You can read more about these capacity verifications on my website under the Verification Marks link.

It is of Imperial standard pint capacity.

Hope that helps.
