Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Slot Machine

Question

Slot Machine
Hi Mr. Knutson,

I have a Slot Machine:
Manufactured by
Williams Electronics Division
The Seeburg Corporation of Delaware
Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.
Model # 5LF-16
Serial # 12854
Manufacture date: Dec. 9, 1979
GDI 25 cent machine

This machine will not operate from the handle. When the wire is tripped at the coin inlet the machine makes a loud buzzing noise from the reel motor area and then the 48-volt fuse blows. The reels will spin if the clear relay button is pushed at the top or if the points are closed on the brown fiber disk on the right. I have been a Mercedes Tech. Since 1981, but Slot Machines are new to me. Could you recommend a good service/parts manual and I am having a hard time finding info or model type from numbers on the tag. Thank you for your time. I appreciate it very much. If you have any MBZ questions maybe I can help you.

John

Answer
Hi John,
Great to hear from you, you know these Williams/Seeburgs slot machines are really nice machines and fun to play, they are different, and built different then the run of the mill slot machines, but when working properly a great fun game to play. I see that you wrote me direct and sent photo's. So I will write you there as I do have an original 170 page manual for this machine and being not a common machine you see everyday, a good manual to have in your hands. Please rate me when we are done here, so we can close this out on this allexperts site.
Thank You
Sincerely
Rodger Knutson

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
