Question

various thimbles
i have thimbles that my mother collected and wondered if you can tell me their possible worth?  several have "vernon" on the back - I am guessing Lillian Vernon? and there is a silver one with mother and child (virgin mary and child maybe) with the date of 1979 on it.  also a bi-centenial on from 1976.  Thank you for any help you can give - also do you know where I could sell them if they have value>?

Answer
Hello Velma.  Yes, Vernon does indicate Lillian Vernon.  I can't give you a value of you collection without seeing it, but from the ones you describe, it does sound like most are contemporary rather than antique.  The ones you have described can frequently be found for sale on ebay as they are not uncommon.  Most books on the subject will not include information on your thimbles as they are too modern.  If I were you, I would monitor ebay for selling prices of thimbles similar to yours to determine the value of what you have.  If you wish to sell them, ebay could be the venue or if there is a dealer near you who might be interested, that could be an option as well.  Good luck.  Barb
