Question
We have an old Singer electric sewing machine that was my Mother-in-law's. I have used it at her house and know it works. The problem is it is a portable and is in a wooden case. We can not get the top off of the case to get to the machine. Is there a key or something you need to open it. I never saw her do that but it is hooked down on 1 end and we can not see how to get it open.

Answer
Hello Pat,

Thank you for your query.  I believe what you have is a full-sized home or domestic sewing machine. This is not my expertise.

I am able to help you with the antique toy or miniature collectible variety of sewing machine only.  I am an expert is antique needlework tools, thimbles and their hallmarks.

The following website may be of interest to you however:

Hopefully someone has the answer for you.

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
