Question I have a Hanson 25 pound Utility Scale, model 2000; made in Chicago 22 U.S.A.; NOT LEGAL FOR USE IN TRADE. The face is gray and white and after setting it to zero and adding a three pound weight, approximately 1/10 lb. off. Can you please tell me the approximate age and supply any additional information?
Thanks,
Chick
Answer Hi Chick,
Hanson Brother's Scale Co. was founded in the 1890's by Marius and William Hansen in Chicago. It had been in the Hanssen family for 3 generations until 1969, when it was sold to Sunbeam.
Hanson's model 2000 is shown in the Hanson catalog of 1940 where it is described as follows:
"Re-checking or Utility Scales for heavy duty in factories, storerooms, warehouses, etc. For use in factories, warehouses, storerooms, or wherever an accurate, heavy duty scale is required. There is hardly an industrial institution where an extra, inexpensive scale of this type cannot be used profitably. Will pay for itself in time and labor saved.
Hand assembled from accurately machined parts and tested to extreme accuracy with standard weights. Equipped with a heavy, cast iron upper link, Swedish tempered steel springs and gravity rack.
Adjusted by a set screw at top so that pointer may be set at zero to balance a scoop or container.
Capacity 25 pounds."
Retail value might be $25-$50 depending on condition.
Hope this helps.
