Collectibles-General (Antiques) - PTC Carousel Horse

Expert: Bruce W. Zubee - 10/11/2009

Question
My Mother-in-law purchased a vintage PTC carousel horse several yrs ago from an antique dealer & we are very interested in getting an appraisalfor insurance purposes.  It is a large, jeweled, beautifully carved & painted jumper & she was told it was actually a display horse for PTC. The paint & jewels look original & the horse looks to be in extremely good condition.  Could you give us some info on who to contact for authenticity & insurance value?  We have photos- any info would be helpul
Thank you,
Laurie

Answer
Since this was described as a "display horse" it would have to be inspected in person.  That phrase is often used to market a piece that is not authentic.    I know of qualified appraisers in Maryland, Ohio , New Jersey and Pennsylvania only.   If you would like to send me a photo I'll have a look but chances are someone would have to see it in person.
