Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Bally slot machine

Question
Hi,
I just bought a Bally Lucky Stars machine.  It is a single coin, one pay line electro mechanical machine.  The tag on the side says "Dublin Ireland" and the word center on the front glass is spelled "centre" so I assume it was made in Europe.  I have found nothing about this machine anywhere online.  Just wondering if it is rare, valuable, or ordinary.  When was it made? Any info would be helpful.  Thanks.

Answer

Hi Again Scott,

Just like an old dog, I have to keep digging... Guess what? I dug up a bone! Your "Lucky Stars" slot machine is Bally Model Number: 1168. It was made in 1978 and is a four reel slot machine, It was built in Ireland and Exported to Australia. There you go my friend. Now, can you change that low rating of a "7" you gave me, to a "10" that I deserve for this pile of work? Or, am I stuck with that low rating forever?

Thank You

Sincerely

Hi Scott,

For the most part, these machines I believe, are made the same as the U.S. models, but with different foreign game kits in them. I have seen several photo's of foreign Ballys and most have a game kit I have never seen on U.S. games. More or less valuable you ask, no, not really unless it's some exotic game with extra features not seen on most other machines like Ballys "double or nothing", or "Circus", or "Mustang", all high value games. My guess is this is just a standard game but with a none u.s. game kit in it. The year can be found on the Bally Serial Number Tag under the pull handle, hand stamped in two parts at the very top edges of the tag, in the painted black area, it will have two digits on the top left, "19" and two digits on the top right "76" which would mean it was made in 1976, you will have to check this on yours to find the year of yours. Also sometimes they added dates or the year in two digits "76" to the edge of the glass somewhere, on some Baily's and not all machines. There is hardly any information on the foreign models to be found here in the U.S. As these machines and their history, mainly stayed where they are. Once in a while I will see Bally foreign slot machine, "Sales flyer's" under slot machine parts at auction, on ebay in case you want to watch for one. I hope this has answered some or all of your questions Scott, if not ask away.

Thank You!

Sincerely

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
