Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Berkey and Gay Furniture Repair and Restoration

Question
Eileen:

My wife and I inherited several pieces of Berkey and Gay Furniture that need repair and restoration. I don't have the time, space or skills to take on this project. I have been searching - unsuccessfully - to identify someone who is skilled in furniture repair that can accomplish this task. Is there a registery, or list that identifies such individuals or companies? I am willing to pack up this furniture and transport the pieces across country, if necessary. We are located in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Many thanks for your time.
Thomas

Answer
Hi Thomas
Nice to hear from you.
Gosh there should be no need to send the furniture very far.
Just in our little area I could drive less than fifty miles in any directions and find many.
But that aside, here is one such directory as you asked for
http://prorestorers.org/location.htm
Also a Google search found these
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=list+of++furniture+restorers+idaho&btnG=Sear...
Just be careful and check out any shops work before they start on your furniture.
This is quality furniture you have.
Any good place will proudly show off their work.
Good luck.

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
