Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Tiffany tape measure

Question
Hello and thanks in advance for answering my question. I have recently acquired a sterling silver tape measure by Tiffany. It is round, approx. 1-3/4 inch diameter. The tape itself is marked "LUFKIN" and the edge of the case is marked: TIFFANY & Co. MAKERS 925 STERLING 25998. Others I have seen have a button for retraction at center, but this one does not. It is manual, but still works just fine. It is, of course, monogrammed: J.L.J. Do you have an idea as to when it was produced and a relative value. I am considering giving it as a gift to a carpenter friend. Thanks, again, Steve @ ICOIN, INC.

Answer
Hello Steve.  First off, if I were you, I would give the tape measure to someone who sews rather than a carpenter!  Tiffany sold many sewing items but not all were made by them.  Most were commissioned by Tiffany and marked with their trademark.  Tiffany does provide a research service on the items they sold, which is probably your best avenue to find out when it was produced and what value it has currently.  Good luck with your search for information.  Barbara
