Question
i have an old richardson upright piano, some of the keys are stuck, and it hasn't been tuned in years. the cabinet is very nice, i refinished it several years ago, i want to know if it is worth anything, or should i convert it to a entertainment center which i need.  i have experience in woodworking, but i don't want to do this if it would be worth fixing.

Answer
Hi Arlyn
Nice to hear from you.
These old pianos have little value and with the keys in this condition you need a pro to do the repairs and tuning.
This does not come cheap.
I am sending you a couple of sites I know you will find interesting.
This first one may help you determine the age of your piano.

This next site is awesome.
Look at the wonderful units that can be made from these old pianos. I hope this will inspire you.

As you already know, the workmanship in these wonderful old pianos is outstanding and I am glad to know you are appreciative of this fact and want to make something useful out of yours.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
