Question

Antique lamp
Attached is a picture of a lamp that was in our entryway when we moved into our 1898 farmhouse, most of it original.  We are unable to find any marking on it so have no way of identifying it.  It was hooked up as an electrical fixture but it was obviously not intended as such.  We believe it was an oil lamp originally (hence the opening to light it).  It is 17" high.  One of the eight panels opens.  As far as we can tell it is made of brass.  Can you give us any information on it: maker, value, etc.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi, I am not that familiar with these, but if it is American, it is from the arts & crafts/mission era and could be worth several hundred dollars. As you know there are a lot of brass imports from asia and the far east that resemble this style, dating backing from the 1960s to present. If this is one, then the value would be maybe $100. Without personal inspection, I can't say much more. thanks
