Question

Pewter tankard
I have a 14" pewter tankard with flat lid with rams head knob that has a heavy chain that drapes the base of the lid and used to carry or hang. It also has a normal handle.  The shape is bulbous in center and narrows down to base.  Heavy in weight. How would I price something like this for resale?

Hello Bev,

Your piece is actually a flagon, of a style made in Switzerland in the 18th Century. However, this example is a modern reproduction. The 95% mark indicates the proportion of tin in the pewter alloy, and such marks only began to be used in the mid 20th Century.

So as a decorative reproduction its value is very modest indeed.

Hope that helps.
