Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Repair of my Duncan Phyfe sofa

Question
Dear Eileen, One of the legs of my Duncan Phyfe sofa got cracked during delivery, I am very upset and sad. I don't want to return it to the seller because I really like it and it is hard find these. Is there a way to repair this. I have no little kids but my guests would be sitting on it, is that OK? Also, is there a way to tell how old this is and how rare? It has horizontal finials on the backrest.
Thank you so much for your help.

Answer
Hello SP
Nice to hear from you.
I have said before that I have never ran accross a piece of wood that could not be fixed LOL. I am sure your cracked leg can be repaired but I need a better description of the damage.
The site allows a picture to be posted or a clear verbal description of the damage will do also.
Can you get back to me?
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
