Question
I have a sterling silver thimble with a "coat of arms" symbol on the top inside. Very decorative also.  I can't really make out to well the symbols on the coat of arms  but my question is: Where would a thimble like this originate?  Thanks!!

Answer
Hello Dave,
It is virtually impossible for me to begin to answer your question without seeing a photo of your thimble.  Millions of thimbles were made and there were so many different manufacturers etc.
The 'coat of arms' that you are describing is most likely a manufacturers trademark.  Many countries marked their thimbles in the inside top.
Please send a photo of the thimble and if you can, also the marks on the inside.  This way I can provide you with accurate information. If you are unable to take a photo of the marks inside of the thimble, please describe them as accurately as you can and also look on the outside of the thimble to see if there is any marking (use a magnifier).
I look forward to seeing your thimble.
Regards,
Irene
