About Rodger Knutson
Expertise
I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience
I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!

Collectibles-General (Antiques) - 1950 Genco "mercury"

Expert: Rodger Knutson - 3/24/2009

Question
We have a 1950 Genco "Mercury" in our garage. Everything works. Everything lights up. What is this machine worth? (not very much fun to play but cool to look at)

Answer
Christopher, Did I blow it here? is this not a vertical pinball game? I might of looked at someone else's photos asking about a Genco game also? Did I make a mistake or is this your game?

Hi Christopher,

I knew some about Genco vertical pinball games, but not much. I really had to do some looking to even find one in a book, so it took me awhile to get you an answer, well after some time I did. It looks like your game but just a little different game, same look, just different glass and game name. The one I found is called a Genco 400 made in 1952. It a vertical pinball game and there rare, but not all that valuable, a quote from the book is: Genco made two, WHIZZ a small counter top game (that may have led to the Japanese game of pachinko), was made in October of 1946. 400 was a over-grown WHIZZ in a floor cabinet. The game is very, very fast as gravity works against you all the time. But it is exciting and fun, and wonderful to watch as free games are racked up. Scoring is by a drum, replacing advancing back glass lighting. This 400 game looks just like yours but has a different glass and game name, so now there's three different games and others also as I have see these around from time to time. The book gives this machine a value of $250.00 but that is a guide value, so you might try selling it around $400.00 and see if it gets some interest first. Interesting game that doesn't show up very often, thank you.
Cheers
