Question

Hello,

I bought this daybed a while back but now I'm wondering if its to damaged to
be restored.  One of the legs is broken and it has several coats of paint.  also
the past owner glued some of the wicker.

My question is, is it still a restorable piece or is it to damaged?

Regards

Answer
Thanks for your question,
It looks like your daybed is a fibre wicker piece. I can see the damage of the bottom and the wrapping. I don't see which leg is broken. If it is one of the center legs, it shouldn't be to hard to replace. One of the 4 corners would require more work.Make sure whoever restores it uses wire core fibre for the uprights and band weaving. It looks like someone just tried to use fibre rush like you would use on a chair seat, it doesn't have the support needed for this.
If it were mine, I would have the wicker repaired and then using a wire brush, remove as much of the loose paint as passable, then prime and repaint. Most of the time people just paint over the old paint without doing any prep work. That's why the paint flakes off after time.
It's a very nice item. I wish I could find one like it close to me. We have always wanted a daybed for our home.
Good luck with your project!!
