Collectibles-General (Antiques)/iron bed rails

Question
I have an antique four poster bed and when we moved, the movers lost the iron L bed rails.  The headboard and footboard have the metal brackets on them in which the iron rail had a round metal "button" that slipped onto this bracket.  Do you know where I can purchase these rails?  thanks!

Answer
Hi Janet
Nice to hear from you.
So sorry this has happened.
These rails are out there but its going to take some searching on your part to find them as there is not a particular store I can send you to.
You will look in antique shops, junk stores, Salvation Army Stores, Goodwill etc.
Quite often little village antique stores have back sheds that always seem to have a lot of these rails.
One other place you could try is iron salvage yards.
I can tell you these L rails are used for a lot of things they were never intended for but are very useful for.
The iron salvage places do not destroy them but keep them in piles to be sold as is for various projects like making small wagons, trailers carts etc.
Janet you will find some I assure you but you have to hunt around.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
