Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Antique bed frames

Question
I am looking to find a few of the side pieces for an antique metal bed. They look like a piece of angle iron that the sides of the bed sit on. New beds use a couple of hooks that slide into the head and foot boards. These have a round piece that gets larger toward the top and slides into the head and foot board.

I was wondering where you can find these side rails? Thanks

Answer
Hi Jack
Nice to hear from you.
I get asked this a good bit so a lot of folks are going back to these old beds it seems.
I know of no where they can be purchased new.
But there are lots of them around.
Try scrap yards, Goodwill and Salvation Army stores, junk stores, yard sales and antique stores. Antique stores often have a back shed with several of these around. I could go tomorrow to the antique stores in my small area and come back with bed rails.
It takes some looking but you will find them.
Good Luck
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
