About Irene Schwall
Expertise
I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. Please note: I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing -- I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.

Experience
My expertise is in ANTIQUE sewing or needlework tools & thimbles, gold, silver, brass, ivory, bone etc. Modern thimbles are not necessarily my strong point but I may be able to help so don't hesitate to ask. I am also very well versed in the identification of Hallmarks on sewing collectibles.

Collectibles-General (Antiques) - toy/miniture Singer machine

Expert: Irene Schwall - 4/3/2009

Question
My wife found her sewing machine from her childhood (approx 1965) in our attic recently. I tried it, and it does sew pretty well. What can you tell us about this machine? There are no identifying numbers anywhere that I can find. Under the hand crank, "The Singer Manufacturing Co." is printed in brown letters. "Great Britain" is stamped on the back side of the upright.

There are no books or any attachments in the plastic case, only the machine (with an adjustable guide on the table/arm). The plastic case is cracked on one side.

Any information, including some idea of value will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jim and Cricket

Answer
Hello Jim,
Firstly, have you sent me an email with photo under the name "James"?  If so then I have the photo that goes with this email.  I have a photo of a buff colored Singer.
Please confirm so that I'm not confusing two different people.
Thanks.
Irene

Hello Jim,
Thanks for the confirmation.
What you have is a Singer SewHandy Model 40K toy sewing machine.
If the machine and case were in mint condition, value range would be approx. $90-$125.  The machine dates to the 1960's.
I hope this helps.
Irene
