Collectibles-General (Antiques) - Whole working Carousel

Expert: Bruce W. Zubee - 5/21/2009

Question
I was just given a whole carousel with horses a rabbit, pig rooster and a dog the main part of the caousel says theel mrg leavenworth kans on it. I am looking to find information on restoring it. Even thought it is in working order I would like to restore it to the original colors, becuase of the many years of it being painted and used. I also would like to know about how much you think it may be worth. Im not interested in selling just wondering. I you have any hints to were I could find some information on the history of these carousels that would be a great help thank you for your time

Answer
For restoration tips, get the book "Paint the Ponies" by Bette Largent.  Contact Bette directly at:  prez@nca-usa.org.   As far as placing a value on your carousel, I would prefer not to do that.  In this depressed market it's really not possible.   I'd just say that it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.
