Collectibles-General (Antiques)/platform scale

Question
I recently purchased an old Fairbanks platform scale at an auction for only $7, and was wondering if the age of it could be determined from the serial number I found stamped on the wood, and on the metal scale bar.  At the base of the scale, the name "FAIRBANKS" with the words "CAP. 500 LBS. MADE IN U.S.A." underneath is in the metal.  The serial number is E869609.  Any info would be great, as I am just excited about getting this old scale.  Unfortunately the wheels are gone, and one of the 25lb weights is missing, but otherwise in good condition.  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Unfortunately, we have no way to determine the age of a Fairbanks Scale by using a serial number. If you send a photo to us at
i-weigh-u@comcast.net we will check our catalogs and see if we can identify a year of manufacture range for your scale. Please be aware that most styles of Fairbanks scales were manufactured by the company for many years.

Thanks.
