Question Hi, I believe I have a Chicago Mosaic Shade Co. Lamp. It is a 12 Panel Slag Glass Shade. Curved Carmel on top and Light Blue on bottom. The Shade frame is a soft metal. Kind of a bronze or copper colored metal? It's six sided and the lower panels of the frame are Scenic/Silhouetted. They depict tree's and a two buildings, Maybe churches? The tree's look like palm tree's or weeping willows. I took all the panels out and washed them in warm water. I am wondering how to clean the frame or should it be left alone. The base is a heavy cast iron maybe or maybe pot metal? It looks to have a Gold and light blue painted surface that is covered with an even layer of light surface rust and heavy dirt. I'm wondering how to clean the base. How to removed the rust and grim but not the painted surface? I'm also wondering if this is even a good idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Answer If you are trying to keep it as original as possible, then brush off the metal lightly to get dust and light rust/corrosion off and then use a mild windex solution to clean. You can also spray a semi-gloss clear coat after clean to enhance the metal. Thanks
