Question Can you tell me something about this very unusual child's desk? The top lifts up & there's a double chalk board, & lift one more time & the books go in there. Looks to be made of mostly oak but there's another wood that may be burl??. Not sure. There's an "SH" stamped into the wood on the back ...I'm enclosing 1 photo here & I will send more to your e-mail address. Any information on time period or what it's call would be greatly appreciated. Thank you . Size: H 2'x W18 1/2"x D14 3/4"...The top lid has what looks like a thin black paper like leather & the inside chalk boards have been re painted .Alot of it looks original...Thank you again. Erma W.
Answer the pictures arent in focus but i still see no oak wood, it appears to be maple, poplar, cherry, birch or sweet gum. need a clear photo to be sure.
this is a very nice and interesting piece of americanna made around 1900-1920 and the condition is super. this is only the second one of these i have seen, the other was in Pa about 25 years ago. in a shop it would be priced at 150-175.
hope this helps
send another picture and i will make a positive identification on the wood species.
