About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience
I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.

Question
I was given this set and I would like to know what year it was made? I tried to find it online, but never could. Its a set of a buffet, hutch and drop leaf table. The picture is the buffet that we started to strip for refinishing. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
Hi Liz
Nice to hear from you.
Good grief, why would anyone paint this lovely mahogany veneer dining set.
You have your work cut out thats for sure.
As far as an exact date of manufacture, no one can tell you the exact year it was made.
My guess is the set dates around the 40's.
Get the handles off and soak them in your paint stripper.
There will be lots of paint residue under the handles.
Its details like this that make a good job.
When we strip pieces like this we want the piece to look like it was never painted when we are finished.
That means no traces of paint anywhere.
Liz this will be lovely if its finished properly.
Hang in there. Its worth the effort.
Kind Regards
Eileen
