About Rodger Knutson
Expertise
I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience
I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!

Collectibles-General (Antiques) - Coke Machine value?

Expert: Rodger Knutson - 7/11/2009

Question
Hi there,
I have a Coke machine that I was looking for a value on. Its plate says its a Vendo VE81F-S. I can't find anything online to verify this. It appears to be 100% original except for maybe the changer. I have photos of it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25127540@N04/sets/72157621157708007/. The unit runs, but trips the breaker in my garage. I believe I was shocked by the door handle once, also.
Please let me know if you can help me out.

Thanks!!

Brian P.

Answer
Hi Brian,

I am sure you are aware that I don't do soda machines so please don't rate me on this unless it's a 10 for helping. This is a square top machine, the collectible machines generally have round tops, (Round corners at the top) so you don't have a hot item unless the top corners are round. Also the collector books and price guides that I have see don't list square tops, maybe because they are newer then the hot items, I don't know. From little experience I can give you an idea as to value, about 400.00 if it is working. maybe a little more or less, but that is a good figure with all I know about it. Sounds to me like you could have a direct short in it if it pop's the breaker right away. Also if your age getting a shock when it doesn't this sounds like no ground or wires crossed some ware. If you plug is a none grounded plug maybe it's getting plugged in back-wards. Sockets now days have a neutral, a hot and a ground. the old stuff had a neutral and a hot, get it back wards and you were the ground. Anyway I am not an electrician so don't believe anything I am writing about this electrical, but something like this could cause the shock. That is about all I have for you my friend, I wish I could help more but soda machines are not in my top interest so I am limited in knowledge about them. PLEASE DON'T be standing in water around that thing when it's plugged in, it could send you on a one way trip to the moon.
Cheers
