About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience
I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.

Collectibles-General (Antiques) - Settee

Expert: Eileen Cronk - 7/11/2009

Question
I did some work on a antique wooden Settee that my wife found at a garage sale.  It was missing a number of pieces (including the seat) but after some work, sanding, stain, and poly, it's now looking pretty good.

I'm ready to upholster the seat part and the two back sections.  But would love to find a picture of a similar one to compare or get some ideas of how it should look.

Any ideas?

Answer
Hi David
Nice to hear from you.
The seat will be similar to this.

While its difficult to see in your dark picture, I believe the back of your settee will be filled somewhat similar to this one.

The trim you see around the fabric in the last picture is called "gimp" and is readily available at fabric stores or upholestry shops. It comes in many colors to match your new fabric.
I found the above photos through a Google image search.

As you will see there are many many fabric choices.
Very nice find.

Eileen
