Question
QUESTION: Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me anything about this old thimble. Has the size 10 on the outside and looks like the bottom was a copper color and it's wore off on some of the panels (or it's silver and some panels have turned a copper color). It also has a star inside at the top. Thank you for any help you can give me.

ANSWER: Hello Terri. It sounds like you may have a sterling silver thimble with a gold wash band, but I can't tell for sure without a picture.  The star inside the top would indicate the thimble was made by Waite-Thresher.  You can search the internet for silver marks to be sure.  Hope I've helped.  Barbara

QUESTION: I am such a idiot! I forgot to attach a picture?? I'm sending one now just incase you can add anything. Would you know how old and what it's worth?

Thanks so much, it's nice to have help out there

Answer
Hello Terri.  Ah - not completely what I thought!  This is the reason pictures are so critical when providing information about collectibles. This is not a true Waite Thresher thimble.  It has either been repaired with that thick band about the gold washed band or it is two thimbles that have been combined - perhaps to diminish the damage done from continual use.  Since this is not a true production of the original thimble, it may have little appeal to a collector.  I see you have listed it on eBay.  Will be interesting to see what it brings.  Barbara
