Collectibles-General (Antiques) - Columbus vending machine

Expert: Robert Barnes - 8/3/2009

Question
I have 1 cent Columbus vending gumball / peanut machine.
It has what looks like cast aluminum base and bottom plate.   How much is it worth?  I am interested in selling it but I want to know more about it before I do part with it.
It was give to me as a birthday present when I was little.  I lost the cover and locks long ago....  ( never give a 9 year old a piece of history ...  Yikes!)
I would appreciate whatever you can you tell me about this fine machine.  I am very curious when was it made, and what was it likely filled with?

Answer
Hello, the machine you have is a Columbus Vending Co. Model 46 due to it being aluminum.  This particular machine vended peanuts, and was made in the 40s.  This machine would noramally sell for about $150, but with the lid missing it would sell for around $100.  If you would like to sell it, please contact me at n2coinop@aol.com, or call 630-408-8808.
   Thank you
       Bob
