Question
In my grandmother's things (b. 1900), I found a pack of sewing needles.  The package reads: Sharps 5/10, WATSON'S Needles,(front); Church Brand, Watson's Nickel Plated Sewing Needles, Made in England.  They are lovely, SHARP, and have tiny holes.  What can you tell me?  I am collecting her collectibles for a display, but don't know if these should be included.

Answer
Hello Ellen.  At one time, needles and pins were very valuable.  Needlepackets and needlebooks were used as containers for them.  There were many needle makers in England, but I know of no book for refeerence.  You may have some luck by visiting Rosie's Needlebook Museum (search for it on the web) or by doing research on English needlemakers.  Personally, if you are displaying your grandmother's sewing items, needle packets would be very complementary.  Barbara
