Question

Hershey Machine
Hi,

We picked this up at a antique sale and are having a hard time finding out much about it and were wondering if you may be able to help.

It has a patent date of Aug-8-16 and July-6-20 on the coin mechanism, and then Advance patents and a bunch of numbers printed on the bottom of the machine.

It's unrestored, but does work.  Paint is original, as are the decals (at least it appears that way).

We were wondering about the year, and also the approx. value.

Thanks for your time.

Shari

Answer
Hi,
Your machine was made by the Advance machine company in about 1925. They usually sell for 75-125.00.
I would pay 125.00 for your machine.
If you decide to keep it, I would keep it as is and do not do any kind of restorations or touchups to it.
 Thanks, tom

CommentThanks so much for the info. I think we'll hold on to it for awhile. We paid more for it then you estimate it at, but that's okay. We bought it because we thought it was interesting and we liked it. We'll just add it to the growing collection of coin operated machines for now. :)

Expertise

I am able to answer questions on old coin operated machines. These include vending machines such as gumball or peanut or other machines such as trade stimulators that did not dispense a product but were positioned on a store's counter to bring in customers or stimulate trade. I specialize in machines by Pulver, Zeno, and Mansfield and also any old cast iron or wood machines.

Experience

I have been collecting these type of machines for about 10 years and have traveled the country to antique shows and auctions.
