Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Bally 809

Question
My machine is jammed. The first quarter went in and the "coin accepted" light is on. The arm will not pull down and the machine will not take any more quarters (they just run thru and drop out in the well). How can I fix it? Where can I get a manual? Can you recommend someone in the South Florida area to make a house call and show me how to maintain the machine?
Thanks much.

Hi Rick,

The Bally model 809 "MULTIPLIER", should take from 1 to 5 coins and is a single pay-line slot machine made in 1967. This was the first factory produced Bally 5-coin multiplier. This is one fine slot machine, and the perfect classic size machine for home game rooms. For a manual on this machine, there is one that will cover this model and others of this style and vintage of 700 to 900  model series of Bally Electro/Mechanical slot machines. This is a very good manual which is great for those that want to learn about their machines. Easy to read and understand, along with tons of information and locations of leaf switches, switch stacks, switch locations, and what they do, covers Bally wire codes, steppers, odds units, coin steppers, coils, fuses', solenoids and much more information. You can get this manual at:

look for "Bally Electro/Mechanical Manual Number 1100".

On fixing you machine, first lets see if the machine is working, (refer to photo published with this answer) First with the machine power on, open the door and find the coin switch just under the coin acceptor, and once you have located the coin switch, flick the wire that activates this micro switch, just flick it down and let it return. This should coin up your machine, and you should be able to pull the handle now and have the machine play. If this works we now know your machine is working, so the problem is with it mechanically accepting a coin. If your first coin is stuck in the coin acceptor we need to remove it. You can remove the coin acceptor and remove the stuck coin from it, and also hold the con acceptor on a table upright in one hand like it sits in the machine, and drop a coin through it, if it comes out the bottom the jammed coin should be cleared and it should work now after you install it again. Try this and see if this fixes your problem, if not please write me back and we will find a way to fix it together or I'll see if I can locate someone for you to repair it. You can write me at Jackpot7@q.com and we will go from there and get you fixed up and running again.

Thank You

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
